This list of free things to do on the weekend was put together out of boredom and the will to drag my butt off the couch after too much Netflix. When it comes to moving out of home the lack of budget for entertaining yourself is dire. While it is can low on your list of priorities (topped by rent, food & transport) but high on the list of things that concern you. We all like fun after all. Fun makes the world go around.
But all of a sudden your free ride that is your parents house on the weekend is over. Bye satellite tv. Bye backyard swimming pool and an endless supply of food and drink in the fridge. Bye bye good times. Now your reality is that there’s little food, close to zero money and all your friends are pretty much in the same boat. So what then?
Well, you find some free things to do to entertain yourselves. The internet is full of similar lists. Some are hundred of ‘free things to do’ deep. We can’t compete with that, making this list was something I did on the weekend for free, but I think our ideas have flair. They’re fun and free. That’s what makes them different.
Free things to do on the weekend, right? Let’s get on with that folks, let’s make a list!
Free things to do on the weekend.
- Listen to some podcasts

- Build a blanket fort and refuse to adult for the day
- Check out your local council’s list of activities for free stuff
- Call your parents, they’ll appreciate the check in
- Go swimming at your local swimming hole
- Or find the local fishing hole, pretend to be Huck Finn
- Plan a holiday, and a savings plan to get there
- Google “memes” and enjoy the best the internet has to offer
- Visit a friend, request they make dinner for you
- Clean out your closet, sell the stuff you don’t want online and pocket the cash
- Go stargazing, better yet find a free camp and stay there
- Grab a friend and go for a hike
- Write a poem inspired by someone special or Jennifer Lawrence. Whatever floats your boat.
- Learn a card trick, or to juggle
Got anything we can add to the list? Share in the comments, I’ll add them to the post!
