Why indeed? What makes me think that I have anything to share on the topic of leaving home? Of moving out of your parents house successfully? Well, first of all, I did it once. That makes me an expert, doing it once is absolutely a qualifying factor. And second I’m the eldest child, that makes me exceptionally bossy and keen on telling people what to do.
Now those people, are you!
I was sitting at my desk sometime in late October 2014. My personal blog was just about to tick over to 5 years on the interwebs. To be honest I was sick and tired of writing about myself (and yet, here we are again). I wanted to write about something else. Literally, anything else. I was tossing around a few ideas and then it occurred to me, I’m going to write a blog about being a grown up.
A resource blog.
A fun blog.
The kind of blog that you could go to and write ask a question about something and have someone give you the answer. Someone who wouldn’t judge you, someone who wasn’t so old they were out of the loop. A big sister type. The type that you always wanted and only some of us are lucky enough to have.
So at the beginning of November I started to write. Then I commissioned a logo and built a website. Bit by bit I filled it with tips and tricks for being a grown up. Some simple, like how to boil and egg. And some not so simple, like how to say no and feel good about it. And then I asked some other people to write for me too and we had ourselves a blog.
Then on the 1st of December I threw open the doors and invited all my blogger friends in. I had a second blog. It was live. I wrote a blog about leaving home, about moving out and being a grown up. And since that first month, when we had content for days, there hasn’t been a lot of time for this blog. But that’s changing now. I’ve committed to writing three posts a week.
Because I love to blog, I love to tell people what to do and most of all, I love that on this blog I get to say shit at life and laughed my ass off that actually being a grown up is a load of rubbish and for the most part we are all just stumbling about doing the best we can. So enjoy, I hope you’ll stick around, that you’ll tell your friends and that we’re all here come December 1st for our first blog birthday.
